Natalie--We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for everything!

You accommodated many guests for my brother's wedding and everyone I spoke to enjoyed their room.

Good luck with the rest of your busy season!

Just returned home from my Highlands trip and I miss my cottage at Mitchells already! Cecelia was so great and helpful after I had trouble with my cabin at the Carolina Motel in Franklin. Checking in with no notice was a breeze and our stay was wonderful! My family had the time of our lives in the great smokies and we'...ll definitely be back! I can't wait to stay at Mitchells again! Say hi to Boots for us!

Natalie at Mitchells is wonderful.

Great weekend escape - we suggest Mitchells for our SPAHike clients at RAY OF LIGHT consulting and events!

Tip: Sip a nice glass of wine fireside at the outdoor pavillion.

WOW! How beautiful, and amazing to see it covering the street and the walkways, but I missed my window of opportunity to become snowed in.

How nice to be "stuck" at the Mitchell Motel with a wood burning fireplace popping and crackling, warm Jacuzzi over the creek, and a nice bottle of red wine. What a gorgeous and fun place.Wish we were there.........

If you have kids, I think this is the best place to stay in the highlands.

Our kids loved it, the rooms were nice, everyone was friendly, and it's close to town.

Wow! I so wish I could have been there to see it.

How beautiful. Some of my best memories have occurred right there in the end room with the fireplace.

Please, never change it! (except maybe the mattresses) LOL:)

We love Mitchell's Lodge and Cottages.

We have been visiting since the late 70's and have loved every minute that we have spent there, and in the surrounding area.

Looking forward to spending more time there with our children and grandchildren.

My favorite part is the stream and the small pond.

When our children were s...mall they loved those two areas.

We are "flatlanders,river-rats, and geechees" from the lowcountry, so it was such a novelty for them to play in a mountain stream.

They referred to it as a "creek" and I guess it is, but a "crik" would sound more native!

Natalie,

Thank you for the wonderful time we spent in Mitchell's Lodge and Cottages, and for all your attentions and for the wonderful time we had in your wonderful town, Highlands.

We really enjoyed being there and for sure we will plan to come back as soon as possible.

Thank you for your wonderful and kind treatment.

My whole family, my wife and daughters, want to say thank you for your hospitality. The fireplace, the jacuzzi, we enjoyed all our moments there.

Thank you very much. And happy New Year in 2010!

Dear friends at Mitchell's:

Please accept my apology for bringing home a key to the Pine Cabin by mistake. I am enclosing it and hope that it did not cause problems for you without it during the weekend.

Thank you again for your generous hospitality during our Thanksgiving stay.

My family all agreed that it was one of our best Thanksgiving celebrations ever and that coming to Mitchell’s has become a favorite holiday tradition for us. We are looking forward to seeing you all soon. In the meantime, best wishes for a safe and joyous Christmas season and a happy and healthy new year!

Yours truly,

November 30, 2009

Hello to everyone at Mitchell's! My family and I fell in love with your lodge and cabins--and with Al, Renee and Natalie!

You helped make our Thanksgiving one of the best ever! There is something special about your lobby--you just want to tarry there and meet all the people coming and going. We felt so at home, like we were staying at our very dear friends' place.

Thank you for being so welcoming and kind--even our young teen and preteen sons loved it...not to mention, "the best hot chocolate in the world" and excellent coffee)!!

We loved Bootsy too! Also, the room was exceptionally clean and wonderful beds too. We'll be back.

Thank you for an amazing experience,
Suzanne and Glenn R.

October 4, 2009

Dear Natalie,

Thank you so much for the email and for the nice conversation earlier today.

I made it home safely and my heart is still longing to be in Highlands...   I had such a relaxing and enjoyable time and Mitchell's was a major part in that.

I now know that it is there, what to expect, and I will long to return as soon as possible.

My drive back home was much better, about 1 hr and 40 mins....   and I took my time.

Before leaving, I did go down and walk under Dry Falls.. and fell in love.  What a gorgeous place on earth.

Thanks for all you and the folks at Mitchell's Lodge did to make my stay so wonderful.

I hope to see you again,
Gratefully,
Crystal J.

Hi Natalie,

Thank you so much for your help with that tripTik from AAA.  I did make it to the game!
And I will recommend Mitchell's Lodge to anyone thinking of visiting Highlands - I had no idea there was this quaint gem of a village in the NC mountains!

Winnie

September 14, 2009

Dear Natalie

Thanks for the nice email.  Yes the winding drive to Whitewater Falls was worth all the turns.  We were the only ones there and it seemed like the world just stopped.  It was so peaceful and beautiful.  Tons of great pictures.

We also wanted to Thank You for being such a help on all the questions we had and your suggestions were always right for us.

We have never been to North Carolina and have already decided we will be back on our next long weekend.   Amazing what a difference a 9 hour drive can make.  As soon as we got back into Florida we could feel the humidity and we looked at each other and said its over.

Once again thanks Natalie you made our vacation great!!!!!!

Sincerely,

Duane and Mariann B.

September 13, 2009

Thanks so much, Natalie.  As I said when we checked out.  Our stay was wonderful!  I do not have any suggestions to make.  The cottage was inviting and comfortable and perfect for our family!  We will definitely recommend you to friends in the future and you would be #1 on our list in the future.

August 27, 2009

Hi Natalie,

Sandy and I had a great time while we were there. It was also great to see your smiling face again. The only complaint we have is that we did not stay long enough. That will certainly be rectified when we return in December or January.

You you did in fact give us two keys. I returned one at check out. The next day, Sandy found the other one in her purse. I have placed the key in the mail box and hope it gets back to you soon. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Look forward to seeing you in the near future.

Take care,

Bob and Sandy F.

Natalie ,

Mitchell's was the perfect place us. For Susan's next class we'll stay with you again.

The only thing that I could suggest is to have a small shelf in the bathroom above the basin.

PS. Tell Olive 'bye bye' for us.

Have a great day.............Louis G.

To the Bolt family~
We want you to know how much we enjoy staying at your wonderful place.
We've been home almost one week, and are already "homesick" for Mitchell's.

On one trip we enjoyed cottage 2,for 3 days, and then this last trip we stayed in deluxe room 25, for 4 days. Both were clean, inviting, relaxing & comfortable. A true "home away from home."

Natalie is most definitley an asset to your company, her ebullient personality and charm made our visits most memorable. She is a dedicated young lady, and goes above and beyond the call of duty!
My husband & I have deepest regards for this wonderful person, and your loyal employee.

The staff are ALL very warm, kind and welcoming.
We are already planning our next trip to the mountains and our stay at Mitchell's!
We highly recomend your lovely accommodations to all.
Thanks for everything!!

Most sincerely,

"really enjoyed our weekend"

Hey guys!  We really enjoyed our weekend in our cabin!  It was perfect; you don't need to add or take anything away.  We will definitely be calling to book again next year, if not before.

Thanks again,

" It was perfect"

We really enjoyed our stay with you guys and have recommended it to both sets of our parents.  We look forward to staying again next year!

Could you tell me what the name of the wine you guys put in my room was?  I really enjoyed it.  Thank you.

January 20, 2009

Natalie, Steve,

Thanks for your help and hospitality this weekend.  We do now have a new "home away from home", as you advertise.

Natalie will remember that I was almost stuck up on the mountain after I discovered that my rental car had two slick front tires.  By waiting till noon I was able to get to Asheville and trade that car for an SUV and get home without event.

Just so you know, I found you guys by Googling hotels and lodging in Highlands NC.  From there I clicked on the Tripadvisor.com link.  For whatever reason they rank you guys #4 in Highlands (prob behind Old Edwards Inn and other very high end locations).  What made the difference for me was 1) your website 2) the testimonials of those who had stayed and always stay w/ you 3) your proximity to tubing at Scaly mountain and to skiiing and snowboarding at Sapphire (we're beginners, so that's all of the ski mountain we need).

Anyway, I know you are busy, but did want to say thanks and congratulations for running such a professional and welcoming lodge.

I plan to see you guys again during the President's Day weekend.  I'll call you later to book a room.

William A. (Tony) D.

"Thanks for the dusting of snow in the morning."

We had an absolutely wonderful visit, short as this one was.  Better and more fun than when we came in the summer.  Thanks for the dusting of snow in the morning.  We'll be back real soon.!

"We didn't want to leave" November 19, 2008

What a pleasant surprise your Lodge & Cottages were to our group of ladies spending our annual Girls Week-End in Highlands.  Our spacious room with the fireplace, balcony and wetbar was perfect.  We didn't want to leave.  Steve, the Night Manager, was so kind and courteous to us.  He made dinner reservations for us our first night and even built a fire for us in the outside pavillion which we enjoyed tremendously our second night there.  We will be back!

Linda G.

"We DID enjoy our stay with you!!"  November 13, 2008

We DID enjoy our stay with you!!  It was our first and will definitely
NOT be the last!  We loved the Pavilion w/ the fireplace and the mid-day
cookies...........YUMMY!  Thanks again for having us!

"We enjoyed our stay at Mitchell's Lodge" September 6, 2008

"We highly recommend to others"

July 14, 2008

Thank you for your note of appreciation. I don't think we could have been more pleased with our accomodations over this past weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed the usage of the deck and really appreciated you placing those ducks and bull frogs in the pond and the rabbit on the lawn across from the pond :-). It added to the beautiful scenery and natural sounds that your grounds have to offer. Thank you, again for a most pleasant stay.

We wil highly recommend to others.

Lesa T.

“Best kept secret in Highlands!”

Nov 28, 2007

This is a very cozy, lovely place to stay. The cabins are clean and cozy and the beautiful Cedar Lodge is awesome! The rates are reasonable and the history is amazing. I would recommend anyone to stay here! Best kept secret in Highlands!

“A good place to stay to explore Highlands, NC and the mountains”

Aug 14, 2007

We stayed in a cottage. It was clean and well maintained. We had a great stay. The property is in a good location to explore the area. The breakfast was excellent.

“Great price, good stay”

Jun 29, 2007

I have stayed in the Highlands many times before, mostly renting a cabin/house close to town, so I was already familiar with Mitchells having passed there many times.

We booked online and it was both fast and efficient. Leaving Atlanta in rush hour traffic- we didn't make it to NC for our one night stay - until about 2 hours after expected. The office was still open and there were plenty of people still out and about in town and at Mitchells.

We booked one room - 2 double beds in the main part of the lodge. Paid $81.00 total booking directly through their We site.

Our room was clean and comfie. Granted the bathroom was the size of a small closet - shower only - and yes, yes, yes, this place is older and rustic - but they both advertise this to be the case and it becomes part of the charm of staying at Mitchells overall.

Compared to the ridiculous fees you pay at other hotels in the area - which many are just as old and are NOT any nicer as far as linenes, bathrooms, etc.- than Mitchells - this place is a steal.

Would stay there again.

“R&R On My Honeymoon”

Feb 7, 2007

My honeymoon was a complete surprise! I didn't know where we would be going, since I had told my husband that I wanted one part of our wedding where I didn't have a hand in it, and could just sit back and enjoy myself.

Well, did he come through with this place! Not only is the town of Highlands adorable, accomodating and beautiful, but our stay in the Pine Cabin at Mitchell's was wonderful. With a full kitchen, we were able to cook meals ourselves (when we weren't sampling the local divine restaurants), we relaxed on the deck during the day and played with the owner's cat, Boots, and even were able to rent movies from a local store and watch them in the spacious living room of the cabin! They have a great continental breakfast in the mornings (cereal, oatmeal, pastries, coffee and tea), and the staff is super nice and very helpful in any local questions you might have.

If you need a place to fall into a ridiculously comfortable bed, or just enjoy your time away from the real world, go to Mitchell's!

“A Very Pleasant Stay in Oak Cottage”

Nov 24, 2006

We shared the Oak Cottage with our close friends during a long weekend in Highlands. By no means fancy, the two-bedroom, two-bath cottage was comfortably appointed and very clean. The Oak had a full kitchen and a common area for dining and conversation. It was the perfect "home away from home" for us because we really wanted to spend time with our friends and avoid searching for and spending lots of time in restaurants. Luckily, the super market is just two minutes away in a shopping center. The center also has a Subway, about the only "fast food" in town.

The path to the cottage is a bit spongy and has about twenty steps (down and up) before you get to the porch and rocking chairs. Guests with physical disabilities will want to choose another cottage or stay in the lodge. Also, the Oak is about 100 feet from Dillard Road, but traffic noise was never a problem. In all, we had a very pleasant stay.

“Spring Snowfall”

Aug 20, 2005

Mitchell's Motel has been a favorite of our family since the 1950's. We were surprised by a spring snowfall that completely covered the gound and closed down the parkway! This was a nice plus since we live in Florida. The addition of the 'lodge' with fireplaces, hot tubs and kitchenettes made Mitchell's a must stay while visiting the Smokie Mountains. Mitchell's is a family owned and operated business. The desk is run by a caring and considerate staff. Al (the owner) is usually on hand to answer questions about the area. Photo albums are also available in the office to learn the history of the area and to see construction of the new addition. The breakfast is very nice and also complimentary. The office and breakfast room have a large fireplace and plenty of reading material. If you are looking for a spotless place to spend the night, Mitchell's is the place for you. Rates are reasonable. I suggest getting on their e-mail list for specials throughout the year.
